Things are moving

Just a short, quick update this week.
As of yesterday, the first three chapters and the Primer have been laid out. Chapter two, covering professions, is still awaiting its artwork, but since the dimensions are known, it’s easy to account for them in the layout. Overall, I’m happy with the progress and hope things continue to go smoothly.
I told you this was going to be a short one. I could have skipped a week, but I'd rather update you than ignore you.
Steady as it goes

Here’s the latest update as things continue to move forward:
- The final art pieces are in progress, and I should have them in two weeks. These are individual illustrations for each of the 27 base professions. Once completed, it’ll be full steam ahead.
- James turned in his last pieces, which look fantastic—he outdid himself.
- Proofreading notes are still coming in but won’t delay the layout.
- I’ll assemble the InDesign file, including templates, paragraphs, and character styles, this weekend.
- The decision on the color text still needs to be made once the layout is underway.
That’s everything that’s happened since last week!

I do not have much to say about this image. Well, I do. James really knows how to capture the feel of the game.
Without further ado, here is one of my favorite pieces. Well, for now.

Well, I posted the wrong page two for the character sheet. Here is the correct one without the spelling error.
Sorry.
And now we have a character sheet

As of this weekend, all the graphic design elements are complete and in-house. The visuals of the book are set to be the best they’ve ever been. Emily truly outdid herself, and I can’t say enough about how wonderful it was to collaborate with her.
I prefer clean, simple designs, especially for character sheets. While some games need more complex sheets, Colonial Gothic doesn’t.
My primary goal was to have the character sheet align with the book’s aesthetic while remaining clear and practical. Since the book is 6x9, space efficiency was also a key consideration. From my rough sketches, Emily crafted a design that flawlessly matched the look and feel of the book.
Emily also created a form-fillable PDF version of the character sheet to enhance its functionality. And yes, it will be available on the website and included in the book’s PDF version.
Now that this is off my to-do list, I can finally relax a bit.
